I like what you have done by filling the page with a bold colour but i think that you should fill the page, add more text, and the writing layers over the image and you cant see it that clear. But i do love your masthead as its bold and it contracts from the rest of the page. your sub-heading is also catchy. :]
I really like your background and masthead. You seem to have a clear colour theme - blue and white compliment each other nicely. It's good that you've used a variety of font styles, though you could change them to make them more appropriate for your target audience. As Seada said, perhaps you could position your text so it doesn't overlap the image? Add more text and another image too, there's too much blank space! :)
the background is a great idea as it brings attention to the magazine its different as most magazine front covers are white or light colours, the way the images have been shaped is unique and i havent seen that on a magazine in ages. there is a lot of dead space on the magazine which could be covered up with more text or more photos.
Annie-May, love the font choice for your title. I'd like to see some kind of background that illustrates that this is a music magazine media blog. The front cover itself doesn't show your knowledge of the conventions of layout and design. You need much more detail on your front cover, showing more care and attention to detail.
